Affordable Oklahoma Summer Vacation Ideas

As summer vacation sets in for Oklahoma kids, GO-Time is now for Oklahoma parents. Where can you go? What can you do? Is there a way to have fun on a budget?

Absolutely.

When it comes to entertainment, cost is relative to how convenient something is. The less you have to do in preparation, the more it generally costs... but there are a ton of affordable things to do that your kids will love. Something for every budget. Here are the highlights.

While most kids grumble at the thought of visiting a museum, there are a ton of super-interactive museums around the state.

For instance, I begged my nephews for years to go with me to the Great Plains Museum in Lawton, the day they finally agreed to it they had a blast. Digging for fossils, surviving a tornado, making their own leather goods, etc...

It took the kids about thirty seconds to figure out that digging for salt crystals at Great Salt Plains State Park was awesome. It's free, incredibly messy, and hours of fun.

The same can be said about just about any of the big parks around the state. Turner Falls is fun but pricey, whereas Little Niagara in the Chickasaw National Recreation Area is free and just as picturesque.

Even if the kids show little interest in sports, go see an OKC Dodger game. They usually go by pretty quickly and tickets are really cheap... +/-$12 per person depending on where you want to sit.

Affordability is a big sliding scale based on personal budgets, but if you look hard enough, you'll find something the whole family will enjoy.

Here is a massive list of fun Oklahoma things the family will love.

So if you're looking for a nostalgic good time and an epic evening head to any of these amazing drive-ins.
